How to Layer Gold Chains

How to Layer Gold Chains

What's good, Brother!

It's ya boy, Tony, with Super Jewelry Co., and welcome to the blog. In today's post, I want to show you how to layer your gold chains.

What does Layering Mean?

First off, what does "layering" even mean?

Let's keep it simple. Layering is when you style different length chains in a way that makes you feel SUPER!

Alright, Tony, but, how many chains do you recommend I layer with?

Honestly, you can layer anywhere from 2 gold chains to however many you wish. But, Brother, where I want to help you get started is which chain length to start layering with.

Where to Start Layering: Length and Separation

I'll be breaking down chain layering via two age groups, my Brothers who are from 16 to 25 years old, and my Brothers who are from 26 to 35 years old and up.

For the 16 to 25 year olds

Leave enough separation for pendants

I recommend starting with a 20 inch gold chain for my Brothers from 16 to 25. Many of our customers in this age group prefer the chains tighter around the neck.

The 20 inch gold chain would be great to start out with; you can either layer it with a shorter 18 inch gold chain or go slightly longer with a 22 inch gold chain, depending on what makes you feel good.

But, Tony, why does layering have to be 2 inches apart?

Honestly, it doesn't have to be. You can choose however long the separation between chains is. However, I find that the best style and look comes from having a 2 inch separation between the gold chains.

A 2 inch separation also helps when you want to add a pendant or two. The separation will provide just enough space for the pendants to fill the 2 inch gap.

For the 26 and over crowd

Now, for my Brothers from 26 to 35 and up, I recommend starting with a 22 inch gold chain. The 22 inch is a great length to use as a starting point for deciding which length you'd want to layer next.

With the 22 inch on, you can quickly tell if you want to layer with a shorter, 20 inch chain, or go longer with a 24 inch chain.

Conclusion: How to Layer Chains

Again, Brother, these are my personal recommendations. The best way to find out what's best for you is by trying out different lengths and going with what makes YOU feel good. That is what is most important. How you feel on the inside is what will be projected on the outside.
