Do Not Sleep with Your Fine Gold Chains On

What's good, Brother!

It's ya boy Tony with Super Jewelry Co. and welcome to another blog post.

Today I'll answer the question — should I sleep with my gold chain on? No, you should not. There. Done. No need to read through the post. But aren't you curious as to why you shouldn't sleep with your chain on?

Let's go!

1. Comfort

First, let's start with comfort. The thickness and length of your chain will determine how uncomfortable your slumber will be.

If you got a chunky and long gold chain on while you sleep, you will feel it bothering you while you're lying down and tossing around. From personal experience, chunkier chains range from 6.0mm and up; longer chains range from 24" and up. Do not forget that your own neck size also plays a part in how loose a chain fits. What is a long chain for some people may not be a long chain for you.

How do you expect me to sleep like a baby with this on?

Thin and short gold chains may not bother you as much, if at all. You may not feel thinner and shorter chains dangling around or moving left and right, up and down while you sleep. Thinner chains range anywhere from 1.5mm to 2.5mm. Shorter chains are around the 16"-20" range. Once again, neck size plays a role. A short chain for someone may not be a short chain for you.

So, Tony ... you're saying that I can sleep with a gold chain on as long as it's thin and short?

Not quite, Brother. Now let's move on to the second reason why you should not sleep with your gold chains on.

2. Skin Irritation

Don't get me wrong, some people can go about their day and sleep with their gold chain on without any skin reaction at all. But for others who have sensitive skin, their necks can start to get itchy. People with sensitive skin may even wake up with rashes, redness, or discomfort around the neck area.

Also, keep in mind that as you go about your day with your gold chain on, the chain will get exposed to sweat, oils, and outside elements (dirt, pollen, and air pollution in general). Exposure can start to make your neck itchy if you have sensitive skin.

So, Tony ... how do we minimize the risk of skin irritation, especially for those with sensitive skin?

Do not sleep with your gold chain on. This will help minimize the contact of the gold chain on your neck and reduce the risk of skin irritation.

I recommend taking off your valuable gold chain before you sleep, cleaning it with the polishing cloth that we gift to you, and putting it inside the Super Jewelry Co. velvet pouch that, yes, we also gift to you.

3. Breakage

The last reason why you should not sleep with your gold chain on is that ... ya might break it while you're sleeping.

Remember, Brother, it is not guaranteed that you will break your gold chain while sleeping with it on, but you are definitely increasing the chances of it happening. No matter how peaceful a sleeper you think you may be, you're not conscious of what you are doing while you are asleep. Let's say you subconsciously pull extra hard on your gold chain because it is rubbing against your neck and causing you to itch. How would you feel when you wake up to find your gold chain broken?

Don't run the risk of breaking that new Diamond Cut Gold Rope you just bought. Take your gold chain off before you sleep.

Summary

Don't sleep with your gold chain on. It's really that simple. Chunky and long chains scratch and dangle and move around while you sleep. People with sensitive skin may wake up with rashes from their chains. And above all, the sleepwalker in you may just break your chain.

It's not too late to start to develop better habits on taking care of your gold chains, jewelry, and most importantly, yourself.

And the next time you find yourself tired and just ready to jump into bed, remember ...

Do not sleep with your gold chain on.
